An artwork by Katrin Korfmann for the Ronald McDonald Sport Center in Amsterdam

The Ronald McDonald Sport Center for disabled children and teenagers in Amsterdam was built in 2010. Both a conference room as well as an exercise room should be designed artistically. The commission was given to the artist Katrin Korfmann, which realized an artwork for the specific building.

Her installation consists of mostly wall-sized photographs showing from the bird’s perspective both disabled children and “normal” teenagers in water or on soft gym mats. This angle leads to an image where the children are able to move without any restriction. For each picture Korfmann made several different shots of the same place and collages them together in a new image, which transfers the movement in time. The several meters long panoramic installation represents a (virtual) space, which refers to visions and utopias: the expression of joy and freedom experienced by children and teenagers is transmitted to us and let make the observer the difference between disabled and non-disabled people forget.
