Katrin Korfmann, D/NL *1971 plays in many of her works with the relation of space and surfaces. A few years ago she began to intervene with public space using huge monochrome colour fields.
Her walls withdraw the depth of space and reduce it to the two-dimensional structure of the picture plane. She creates unoccupied spaces where the colour can be subjectively interpreted and the plane can function like a projection background. The real surrounding remains unseen, with all knowledge and context disappeared, leaving now a time in a new created space.

Her photographic compositions build an idealistic space referring both to time and space. She often invents a neutral space where people could come together whether in utopia or reality.
Katrin Korfmann has often been acknowledged for her work, including the Mama Cash Award in 2000, Prix de Rome in 2003 and Rado Star Prize Switzerland 2012.
